Willis Daniel Linder

September 15, 1926 — December 4, 2011

Willis D. Linder, of Denver passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2011, at Presbyterian Harris Hospice Center in Charlotte, NC after a long and hard fought battle. He was born September 15, 1926 in Salisbury, NC to Lewis and Nora Hartman Linder. He worked for McDevitt & Street for 25 years, was instrumental in the building of stadiums, colleges, hospitals and many large buildings. He later formed his own Construction Company and ended his Engineering career working for RT Dooley Construction. He is survived by his wife, "Deegee" Linder of the home, two daughters, Kelly Carter & husband Gary of Denver, Karen Sebastian of Greenville, SC, a step son, Joe Gilleland of Charlotte and 5 beloved grandchildren, Lindsey, Ashley and Chelsey Sebastian of Greenville and Jake and Cameron Carter of Denver. He is also survived by one brother "Sarge" Linder and his wife, Nema. He served in the US Navy and was one of the "Greatest Generation". He was in the China Seas, Iwo Jima, China, & Japan on an LST 959. He was so very proud of his country, fiercely patriotic and a member of the LST Veteran's Association. For years he taught Sunday school and was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. He was a Scottish Rite Mason and member of the Oasis Temple Shrine. He was a former member of Oasis Temple Chanters and the Royal Order of the Jesters. He worked long and hard to help the Crippled Children at the Shrine Hospitals. Willis was preceded in death by his first wife, Connie Moore Linder, a sister, Hazel Linder, a brother "Lope" Linder and his mother and father all of Salisbury. He will be missed by his loving family and close friends from his home town and the people he worked with. He will long be remembered for his many "writings", historical stories he wrote and for all the discussions of the thousands of books he read. He continued his love for learning until the last days.
