John Samuel Cook, 63, of Charlotte, and beloved football coach at Charlotte Country Day School, passed away suddenly Thursday, August 12, 2010, at Presbyterian Hospital. Sam's immediate family includes his son Michael C. (Mick) Cook of Crested Butte, CO, and his family, Veronica Jarolimek and his grandson , Samuel Wyatt Cook, by Jenny Leigh of Raleigh; his mother, Susan M. Cook, of Waxhaw; his sister, Jo Wallace and her husband, Charlie, and their son,John Robert Wallace; and his brother, Dave, and his wife, Joanna Haymore. The second born son to Sam and Sue Buck Cook, Nathaniel Randolph Cook, preceded him in death in 2001. Sam leaves a big family of close companions- his circle of biking friends and the great football program at Charlotte Country Day. "Since 1993, Sam has served Charlotte Country Day School as an assistant junior varsity football coach. He was a Country Day supporter through and through, and embodied the spirit of their athletics program as both a player and a coach. Like his father, beloved varsity football coach, John Cook (who served as head coach from 1959-1986), Sam was the epitome of sportsmanship, character, and the pursuit of excellence. He was a four-sport athlete as a student and name male athlete of the year as a senior. Sam and his father were the very first inductees to the Charlotte Country day School Athletic Hall of Honor in 1999." - taken from the Charlotte Country Day School website: http://www.charlottecountryday.org/news/detail
