Ruth Wilson Long

Mrs. Ruth Wilson Long of Monroe, NC , passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2010. A native of Union County, she was a homemaker and a member of Lakeview Baptist Church. Mrs. Long was preceded in death by Bill, her husband, of 54 years. She is survived by two daughters, Mika Long Ryan and husband, Patrick, of Titusville, NJ and Jill Long Messer and husband, Charles, of Monroe. She is also survived by a brother, Joe Reid "Buck" Wilson and wife Evelyn and one sister, Frances Barnes. The pride and center of her life were her five granddaughters. Affectionately known as "Mama Ruth", she was a loving grandmother to Kate Ryan, University of Virginia '05; Molly Ryan, University of Virginia, '10; Megan Ryan, a sophomore at the University of Dayton; Zan Messer, Methodist University '09 and Ellie Messer, a junior at Gardner-Webb University. An avid sports fan, she enjoyed watching Kate, Molly and Megan show their World Champion American Saddlebred horses, seeing Zan play basketball and watching Ellie cheer at Gardner-Webb.
