Queen Gissentana Pough

December 28, 1916 — April 25, 2012

Queen Gissentana Pough, 95, of Charlotte, passed from this life and entered the presence of her Lord and Savior early Wednesday morning, April 25, 2012. She was born and raised in Orangeburg County, SC, and moved with her family to Charlotte in 1956. At that time, she became a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. A woman of impeccable character, her life was a model illustration of Christ in how she treated, respected, and never judged, every person she met regardless of their status or background. Though she loved to cook and work in her garden, her true love was to her Lord. She was at His House with every opportunity. Before her health failed, she was a leader of the Hymn Choir at Tabernacle Baptist and was also considered "mother" of the church. Her immediate family includes her daughters, Eva Lee Evans and Mary P. Staton; three sisters, Lula Landy, Lila Mae Benson, and Adell LaBoard; 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. -
