Joseph Bernard "Joe" Kopaskie

December 25, 1959 — March 24, 2018

Joseph Bernard Kopaskie, better known as Joey or Joe, peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2018. Joe was a brother, husband, father, and friend. He was a true engineer, both inside and outside of his professional career, tackling every challenge with wit and ingenuity. This included designing countless traffic signals and roadways along the east coast as well as numerous class projects for his children. Joe also enjoyed cooking, repairing anything and everything, and caring for his family. He made his mark on this world and will live on through the cherished memories he shared with everyone around him. Joe was born on December 25, 1959, the eighth child of the late Burton Kopaskie and Grace Carfizzi Kopaskie of Walden, NY. He was the husband of Diane Shirly of Charlotte, NC and the father of three children whom he cared dearly for, Alexander, Andrea, and Benjamin. Joseph came from a family of eleven children and had three brothers and seven sisters. The family that will miss him tremendously along with their spouses are Stanley "Mickey" and Diane Kopaskie of Hernando Beach, FL, Bill Lennon and Joan Tryon of Newburgh, NY, JoAnn Kopaskie Andradez and Ralph Andradez of Hollywood, FL, Eileen Kopaskie Belanger and Richard Belanger of Chapel Hill, NC, Patty Kopaskie of Clemmons, NC, Mark and Mary Kopaskie of Pebble Beach, CA, Faith Kopaskie Salchert of San Diego, CA, Ann Kopaskie of Highland, NY, and Mary Kopaskie Brown and Will Brown of San Diego, CA. Joseph was also the younger brother of the late Rose Kopaskie, Diane Kopaskie Lennon, and Burton Kopaskie. Joe will also be remembered by countless nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, some of whom viewed him as the "cool" uncle. As a family, we will always remember Joe for his ingenious spirit, his frugal nature, and his particular and animated ways of expression. In closing we want people to know just how much Joe meant to each of us. He was the most generous, kind, and thoughtful person who walked this earth, always thinking of others before himself. His children benefited from his advice and trusted strength to always be there through thick and thin. We will truly miss his presence and his "Mr. Fix it" spirit. We will miss you more than you know. With love and admiration your family, Alex, Andrea, Ben, and Diane -
