James Dennis Wells II

March 3, 1940 — October 4, 2021

Family and friends are deeply saddened by the death of Jim Wells of Charlotte, NC. Jim died, peacefully, on the evening of October 3rd in Mint Hill where he had resided for the last few years. Jim was born on March 3, 1940 in Paintsville, KY to James Wells and  Georgean Wells.  He attended Paintsville High School where he succeeded academically and athletically.  He played football for Paintsville High with some of his life-time friends.   He attended University of Kentucky before transferring to Eastern Kentucky University acquiring a degree in Chemistry.  Jim’s first experience was his role of “chemist” at Corning Glass Company.   From there he became highly successful when he joined Radiator Specialty Chemical Company in Charlotte, NC.  His career developed and grew from plant manager to Vice President.   It was during this time that Jim became co-author of many patents in the chemical industry.  Adding to his successes with RadiatorSpecialty, he also founded the industry group of Southern Aerosol Technical Association (SATA). During his college years Jim became married to Alice Jo Crain.   Together they raised two children, James Dennis III and Julia Wells Hilton.  They moved to Charlotte and later acquired a farmhouse that became Jim’s dream of all dreams (not counting family of course. Jim and Alice’s farm was that of many blessings for the family, but Jim had found himself a new “book to write” so to speak.  He planted trees of many varieties and used existing tree lumber to build fences around the various areas of the farm. His favorite area was the farmhouse porch where he would look out overthe cattle he began to raise.  While Jim had many achievements, his greatest was raising his son and daughter.  Jimmy was a disabled child and Jim did much to fulfill his son’s life experiences.   As true as hills are to Kentucky and Carolina, Jim’s love for hunting and fishing was always a delight!!! Jim fished from the time he could swing a pole.  However, later in life, he would hunt in Argentina and fish in Montana…to mention only a few!!!!! Much later in life, Jim attended the Mint Hill Baptist Church with close friend Fran Harris.   Jim loved his Sunday School Class and enjoyed the teachings there. He will be missed by family and friends.  May he rest in peace!!!!   Family Preceded in Death were: Alice Jo (Crain) Wells, wife of 40 years James Dennis Wells III, son Georgean Patrick Wells, mother James Dennis Wells, father Grandparents (Patrick and Wells   Family (Survived by:) Julie D.
