George H. Kirby Sr.

January 11, 1927 — November 28, 2012

George Henry Kirby, Sr., 85, of Charlotte, passed away November 28, 2012, at Asbury Care Center. Mr. Kirby was the son of the late Henry Curtis Kirby and Myrtle Pennell Kirby of Belmont, NC. He served in the 1st Division of the U.S. Army at the close of WWII (1945-1947) in Germany and France. George retired after twenty years of service from the Westinghouse Turbine Plant. He was a quiet, gentle loving, peacemaker and was loved by all. He had a beautiful smile that could melt your heart. George could fix almost anything. He spent time in his workshop always helping neighbors and children. He was a member of Newell Baptist Church for over forty years, head usher, and active member of his Sunday school class. He truly loved his Lord and people. Immediate family members include his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Dorothy Smith Kirby; his son, George Kirby, Jr., and his wife, Audrey; daughters, Dianne Wilson Elliott, and Cathy Nordman, and her companion, Carroll Pridgen; grandchildren, Rob Wilson, Jeffrey Nordman, Jimmy and Stephanie Sutton, Landon, Brody, and Brittany Kirby; great grandchildren, Grason and Jordan Wilson, and Parker Kirby; sister, Lucille Scarborough; brothers, Charles Kirby and Al Kirby. *Memorials may be made to Newell Baptist Church or Hospice and Palliative Care- Charlotte Region.
