Dr. Richard B. Skala

December 31, 1924 — October 10, 2011

Dr. Richard B. "Rick" Skala, 86, left this life, October 10, 2011, to be with the Lord following a short illness. Rick was born in Shanghai, China, December 31, 1924, to the late Dr. Karl R. Skala and Elizabeth Nassau Skala. When he was seven years old, the family settled in Burlingame, CA. Rick enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps at age eighteen and later continued as an Airline Captain for thirty years. Following an early retirement, he chose a second career, and with additional education he became a Chiropractic Physician practicing his specialty in Kingston, NY, Charlotte, and Cornelius, NC. Rick is survived by his wife, Katharine (Kay); son, Dr. Richard K. Skala, and wife, Cynthia; and daughter, Lisbeth L. Skala. His dear son, Christopher A. Skala passed through Heavenly Gates October 2, 2010. Rick is also survived by Chris's wife, Nuris Skala; grandchildren, Brittany, Austin, and Madison Skala, Andrew Wendt, Erin Nonaka, Matthew Skala, Lindsay Nichals, Elizabeth Rhodes; nine great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ilse Cillick and Cecilia Edenholm; and nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, and in this time of such a great need, the family suggests that any donations be made to the Salvation Army, Charlotte, NC.
