Dick McMackin

Richard Kirby "Dick" McMackin, 79, died July 30, 2013, at Plantation Estates in Matthews. Dick was born July 7, 1934 in Clover, SC to the late William Lindsay and Mary Herndon McMackin. He is also preceded in death by his brother, William L. McMackin, Jr. He grew up in Kings Mountain, NC; received undergraduate degree from Lenoir Rhyne College; attended UNC graduate school; received MBA from Wake Forest in 1975. Dick served in US Army, 13 months stationed in Korea. Employed by Wachovia in Winston-Salem 1960-1973, leaving as CFO of Wachovia Realty Investments, he joined NCNB in Charlotte as VP and Controller of NCNB Mortgage, retiring in 1991. He was active in Selwyn Ave. Presbyterian Church, Habitat, Crisis Assistance Ministry, Charlotte Rescue Mission, and tax preparer for AARP. He supported sons' scouting activities, & coached their South Park football & baseball teams. In addition to his wife of 56 years, Anne Dilling McMackin, Dick is survived by sons Mike of Atlanta, Hunter & wife, Susan, of Waxhaw; grandsons Jack, Max, & Sam; their mother, Sarah McMackin; step grandchildren Jordan, Windsor, and Maddie Cox. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Charlotte Rescue Mission or to Plantation Estates Samaritan Fund of ACTS, Inc., c/o ACTS Retirement-Life Communities, PO Box 90, West Point, PA 19486. Deep appreciation goes to Dr. Danny Honeycutt, Hospice-Charlotte Region, Rose Jarboe, and the caring staff and residents at Plantation Estates for their love and support. -
