Obituary for Hazel West

Hazel West

Mrs. Hazel Abernathy West, 91, of Split Oak Drive, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday March 12, 2017, at the home of her daughter and son-in law, Johnette and Dean Maxwell.

Born October 11, 1925, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late David Fulton and Elma Patterson Abernathy.

Mrs. West, known as Maw Maw to many, was the picture of hospitality, opening her door to anyone in need, be it food, shelter or clothing. She was a pillar at her church, St. Luke United Methodist, and was in her element helping and actively participating in any, and all, activities there.

She enjoyed crocheting, cross-word puzzles, reading and gardening. She loved spending time with her family, especially during birthday celebrations and Sunday dinners at her home.

Hazel’s walk with the Lord could be seen in her everyday attitude and demeanor. She was a friend to all and made everyone feel comfortable and welcome.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, John T. Jordan; sons, John T. Jordan, Jr. (Tommy) and David. R. Jordan (Ronny); daughter-in-law, Lesley Jordan; sisters, Aldena Abernathy Smith and Erma Jean Hobbs

Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Johnette Jordan Maxwell and husband, Dean of Charlotte; grandchildren Christopher Price and Jordan Maxwell; great-grandchildren, Kevin Hoff, Kate and Ashley Price

A Funeral Service will be held at Central Church, 5301 Sardis Road Charlotte, NC, on Thursday, March 16, at 12:00 p.m. Friends may visit from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Gardens.

A special thanks to the staff of Gaskin Funeral Services and the Pastoral Care team at Central Church.
